Frequently Asked Questions
Here's an attempt to answer some of the
questions flying around. If you have
questions which are not listed, please
send them to Jeremy Toye on j.toye@btinternet.com.
Q. When do you play?
A. On Wednesdays from 5pm, and on Saturdays
and Sundays from 3pm. Matches are normally
held on weekends, and teas are offered in
the clubhouse.
Q. How long is the season?
A. The final match of the season, the Farewell
Cup, is normally played in the first weekend
of September. We aim to keep going
as long as we can, but weather is the key
factor.
Q. What is WhiSPers?
A. The Club's popular magazine
for members, WhiSPers appears three or four
times a year: call Terry Cadman to receive
your copy.
Q. What is the HPA Blue Book?
A. The essential directory of the Hurlingham
Polo Association, governing body of the sport,
is available to playing members at the clubhouse.
Q. How can I find out what's on?
A. Check with the What's New and What's On sections of the website, or call any member
of the committee listed under Contacts.
Q. How can I get started with polo?
A. Come to the ground on any day of play,
and we can give you advice, depending on
your riding skill (and depth of pocket!).
The majority of players started their polo
at West Somerset.
Q. I'm keen to help - who should I talk
to?
A. Everyone! but more specifically Lisa Wood
through the Contacts page. The Club is run entirely by
volunteers, and there are always rewarding
jobs to be done.
